Do I need to be military or a veteran to participate?

Accepted Answer

No. Valor was founded by a veteran to serve the military community, but every event is open to the public. Veterans, active-duty members, families, and civilians all shoot side by side.

Question 2

Is this beginner-friendly? Is coaching available?

Accepted Answer

Yes. No experience is needed. Coaches and volunteers are on hand to give safety briefings and help you get set up with rental gear, and the focus is on fun, not scores. Is Valor a good fit for veterans coping with stress, anxiety, or PTSD?

Accepted Answer

Yes. "Archery as Therapy" is central to our mission. The focus, controlled breathing, and time outdoors help many veterans manage stress, and our events emphasize personal progress over competition. You'll be among fellow veterans, active-duty members, and supportive civilians, and many people arrive alone and leave with new connections.

Is this a kid-friendly event?

Definitely. Kids 12 and under shoot free with a paid adult registration, and kid-size rental gear is available. Bring the whole family.

Question 5

Can spectators attend?

Accepted Answer

Yes! Spectators can walk the entire course free of charge. We just ask that everyone follow the safety rules and staff instructions.

Do I need to register online?

Accepted Answer

Walk-ups are accepted, but we strongly encourage online registration. It speeds up check-in and secures your preferred start time (your nock time). Walk-up archers are placed in open start-time groups as space allows.

What is the refund policy?

Accepted Answer

Single-event tickets are refundable up to 30 days before the event, or in full if we cancel the event. No refunds are given within 30 days of the event. Season passes are non-refundable, but they can be transferred to another person if you contact us at least 14 days before an event. Processing fees from SimpleTix, our third-party registration platform, are non-refundable. Use the contact form for refund or transfer requests.

What should I bring? Are rentals available?

If you're bringing your own gear, pack your bow (compound, recurve, or traditional), plenty of arrows (the courses are tough on arrows, even for experienced bowhunters), binoculars and/or a rangefinder, hiking boots, water, and snacks. Bright or reflective clothing is recommended. If you need gear, a full rental package is $15 and includes a bow (adult or kid size), 6 arrows, an arm guard, and a hip quiver. It's great for new archers and for friends who want to join you. Just tell staff you're new and we'll handle the setup. Rentals are in addition to event registration. Either way, bring a good attitude and a sense of adventure.

What are the courses like?

Our courses are welcoming for beginners but still exciting for experienced archers. Expect creative shot scenarios, a wide variety of targets, and our exclusive moving targets. We also mix in novelty shots like busting clay pigeons with an arrow, tic-tac-toe, the swinging ball of doom, and 5-card archery stud.

Can my group shoot from different distances?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Shoot from wherever you feel confident, and members of the same group can shoot from different distances. Just stay between the marked shooting cone and the target cone.

Question 11

What are the safety rules?

Accepted Answer

Identify your target: match the number on your shooting-station cone to the target cone before you release. Keep the target zone clear: never shoot if anyone is at or near the target. Call "CLEAR!": after your group retrieves arrows and moves a safe distance away, announce it loudly to the next group. Search efficiently: spend only a few minutes looking for a missed arrow so groups behind you aren't delayed. Stay on marked paths and follow staff and volunteer instructions. Wear bright or reflective clothing for visibility.

Are crossbows allowed?

Accepted Answer

No. Crossbow bolts cause excessive wear on our 3D targets and are hard to remove, which slows the course for everyone.
